Ordnance Survey
“I would wholeheartedly recommend Brochet”
– Amy Sheppard, OS
Respecting a cherished brand in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint templates
Ordnance Survey (OS) are well-known globally as geospatial experts, responsible for mapping Britain. A 230-year-old heritage brand, today even Google and Apple use OS data for precise mapping in the UK. The consumer brand represents just a small part of the business – most of their revenue comes from corporate or government clients.
The importance of quality and branding of their client-facing documents and presentations is paramount. Brochet was asked to help improve the quality and consistency of these documents, by giving OS employees the capability to produce professional, on-brand material, faster and more easily.
In response, Brochet built an integrated desktop in Microsoft Word with an intuitive suite of templates and productivity tools, as well as associated templates and tools in PowerPoint.
Quick to create and consistently branded
We spoke to Amy Sheppard, the project leader at OS about the challenges.
“There was a lack of consistency in our branded documents, and a big disconnect between the document people produced themselves and the brand values”. Amy explained. “Staff needed to have access to a simple to use set of templates that reflect the OS brand.”
The template project became an educational exercise in how you could communicate the brand values through professional client-facing documents. Amy noted that: “Prior to the project, people would bring all their important documents to the brand team – but now that using the templates has dramatically improved the quality, the brand team simply have to check the most critical documents before they go out.”
Flexible and user friendly
At Brochet we always aim to build our templates so that they reflect our clients’ working practices and ensure a more intuitive environment.
The templates retain the flexibility to be tweaked and updated so OS can simply add updates and features. Having built the report template, it provided the basis to add a concise version and a letter template. Alongside its standard productivity tools, Brochet built a facility to allow OS to create and reuse a library of content.
As part of the roll-out alongside the Brochet training sessions, OS created a set of complementary mini-videos and brand experience emails. Together they proved invaluable to help the business switch to a self-serve mindset to produce their documents, and as Amy says: “…gave us peace of mind that the output would showcase the OS brand in a consistent and professional way.”
Delivering long-term value
The feedback from the organisation has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The uptake across the business has been very good, with, unusually, very little resistance. We (OS) got really good feedback” Amy told Brochet
