Security policy change in Microsoft Office Documents

Microsoft has announced they will be adjusting the policy around managing the security of Active Content (e.g. add-ins and macros) in Office 365 documents. The most salient point is that they are changing the hierarchy of who can allow this type of content to run.

Up until now, unless specifically disabled by the administrator, the individual user was able to override the settings. This will be changed so admin-configured policies always take precedence over user settings.

We don’t expect to see many issues, given the way the majority of our clients manage their templates. Using digitally signed templates and running them from trusted locations should be fine.
